Student and Alumni News

Congratulations to Kristin Parent of Carolyn Teschke’s Lab! Kristin was one of 250 senior graduate students selected to attend the National Institutes of Health Graduate Student Research Festival in October, 2006. This event brought together outstanding graduate students to highlight their talents and science to the NIH community.

Peter Lemaire graduated in August from Jim Cole's laboratory with a Ph.D. thesis entitled "Biochemical and Biophysical Characterization of Human Protein Kinase R." He is now working as a Research Investigator at Bristol-Myers Squibb in Princeton, NJ where he is applying his skills in the discovery of small molecule drugs and protein therapeutics.

Congratulations to Jonathan McMurry who received a Cottrell College Science Award. Jonathan, a former graduate student in Debbie Kendall’s lab, in Molecular and Cell Biology, was subsequently a postdoctoral fellow at Yale University. He is now an Assistant Professor at Kennesaw State University in Georgia.

Cheers to Jonathan McMurry and Jim Murphy who recently co-authored a manuscript titled, “The FliN-FliH Interaction Mediates Localization of Flagellar Export ATPase FliI to the C Ring Complex” in Biochemistry 2006. Jonathan and Jim were graduate students together in Debbie Kendall’s laboratory and although in different postdoctoral labs at Yale University, continued their scientific discussions and this led to the collaborative publication.
